College looks to fill 130 apprenticeship vacancies

Walsall College

A BLACK Country college is trying to find suitable youngsters to fill more than 130 apprenticeship vacancies.

Walsall College is staging a jobs fair tomorrow where it hopes to fill as many of the vacancies as it can.

Opportunities are available in a wide range of industries, from construction to dental and hairdressing to pharmacy, and from GCSE right through to degree level.

Fairlawns Hotel and Spa, Pandora Events, Aspray Logistics, Global Electrical, Cosmedic Pharmacy and Tangled Hair are just some of the employers that are currently looking to recruit apprentices.

James Norris, assistant principal for commercial development at Walsall College, said the apprenticeships offered young people the chance to improve their long-term career prospects.

“The opportunity to gain valuable skills and real work experience will lead to greater employment prospects in the future, and (they) are also a fantastic way for businesses to develop new talent and pass their knowledge on to the next generation of workers,” he said.

He said more and more school leavers were now taking up apprenticeships as A-levels and university were no longer seen as the only route to a successful career.

The event takes place between 4-7pm at the college’s Wisemore Campus.
