MOTORISTS using the M6 in the West Midlands have been warned of long delays following a problem in ongoing roadworks.

Two lanes of the southbound carriageway in the roadworks area between Junction 8 (exit for the the M5) and Junction 7, Great Barr are currently closed as highways workers clear debris.

Motorists are being warned of delays of around 50 minutes to normal journey times, while Highways England has said it could be until 4.30pm before the situation returns to normal.

In the meantime, congestion is building and queues are tailing back almost to Junction 10a, the exit for the M54.

Drivers have been advised to seek alternative routes if possible, with the M6 Toll being mentioned as an option.
