Appointments: Chair for sports partnership appointed; Entrepreneur selected to promote Women in Enterprise; and more
THE Black Country BeActive Partnership has appointed Deborah Williams as chair of the board.
The Black Country BeActive Partnership is one of 44 County Sports Partnerships (CSPs) in England working to provide opportunities for people to participate in sport and physical activity across the area.
With a background in finance and business in the public and not for profit sectors, Ms Williams brings a wealth of skills to the BeActive board.
She has previously held board roles with the Department of Transport, Cranfield University, Government advisory boards and NHS as well as Just Advocacy, a charity providing advocacy services for adults with learning difficulties.
She said: “I have worked in areas and countries with the greatest advantage as well as the greatest disadvantage and have learned the value of any activity which can develop and assist an individual’s health and sense of well-being.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge and it was just what I was looking for when returning to my Black Country roots. I am eager to work with the BeActive team and put my skills and experience to good use to get the Black Country active.”

LOCAL businesswoman Sandra Garlick has been appointed to a national taskforce which aims to promote women in enterprise.
The taskforce has been set up by business organisation Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to champion the needs of UK’s female SME owners.
Ms Garlick will join 14 other small business leaders from across the UK to set out the recommendations of FSB’s Women in Enterprise report released earlier this year.
Ms Garlick started her own law firm and grew the business to be one of the leading Legal 500 firms in Coventry & Warwickshire for Employment Law until she merged the business in 2014.
She also founded the Woman Who…Awards in early 2016, created to inspire women in business to celebrate their achievements, to gain confidence and to recognise their own abilities.
She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to join FSB’s Women in Enterprise Taskforce as I am keen to continue to influence the women in the business agenda. I am looking forward to representing businesses from Coventry, Warwickshire & Solihull to ensure that local women have a voice. Through my work as a business growth consultant, in delivering the Woman Who….Awards and now in my role on FSB’s Women in Enterprise Taskforce, I am sure I can help women feel confident and to succeed in business.”

SPECIALIST castings and engineering group Chamberlin has announced the retirement of non-executive director Alan Howarth.
David Nicholas replaces Mr Howarth who is retiring after nine years in the role.
Mr Nicholas was formerly a board director of IMI, the specialist engineering company, and held senior management positions at Tyco International, the security systems firm.
Chairman Keith Butler-Wheelhouse said: “We would like to thank Alan for his enormous contribution to Chamberlin over the last nine years and wish him well. At the same time, we are delighted that David is joining the board as a non-executive director. He brings a wealth of experience and we all look forward to working closely with him.”
