28 jobs to go in Redditch as latest round of BHS closures hits

THE latest wave of BHS site closures, will see the high street retailer’s Redditch store shut down this weekend.

28 jobs will be lost at the Worcestershire site. A total of 700 jobs will be cut in the latest tranche of closures, set to take place on 30 July.

The first round of closures took place this weekend with an initial 580 jobs lost. The majority of the first round stores were in the North West and North East.

Administrators Duff & Phelps are expected to announce later today that all of the remaining 114 BHS stores will cease trading by August 20.

In June 2016 British Home Stores was wound down following an administration in April. Administrators were unable to find a buyer for many sites and 11,000 jobs in total were put at risk.

The company, which was bought in 2015 by Retail Acquisitions, fell victim to changing shopping habits and retail trends. A company voluntary arrangement was proposed in March 2016, but although creditors approved it one month later the company was put into administration as funding promises of £100m fell through.

The fallout from the collapse of the established retailer saw former owner Sir Philip Green grilled by MPs, and a probe into accountants PwC over their handling of BHS’ 2014 accounts.
