5 ways to cope with Monday blues

After having three nights and two days to roam around free of responsibilities and spend your hard-earned cash, it can be difficult to wake up on Monday morning, knowing that it’s all over.

But there are a few ways you can cushion the blow and make Mondays less miserable.

1. Prepare for Monday on Friday

By taking care of the harder tasks on Friday afternoon, Monday mornings are made a lot less stressful. If those tasks are still hanging over you come Monday morning, you’re not going to find it easy getting out of bed.

However, if you can’t manage to get them done, try pushing through them first thing on Monday so you can rest easy knowing the afternoon will be full of the simpler, more enjoyable tasks.

2. Dress for success

Use Monday as the day to wear your favorite or newest outfit. Not only will this make you feel good, but dressing up smart will help build your confidence around the office and might even bag you a few compliments, which can’t be a bad start to a Monday, can it?

3. Unplug at the weekend

Just as you should leave your personal life at home, leave work at the office – and by that we mean staying off the work email at the weekend. Heading back to work on a Monday morning can be especially frustrating if you’ve been working over the weekend.

4. Make someones day

Psychological research has proven that doing something nice for someone else when you’re down can really help to boost your mood. Whether it’s a complimenting a colleague, smiling at a stranger or even bringing treats in for the office, making other people happy is one of the best ways to brighten the atmosphere.

5. Make plans

Arrange to meet a friend or see family after work to make the most out of your Monday. If that sounds like too much effort, plan to get a take-away or relive your favourite film. Having something non-work related to look forward to might even have you excited for your first day back at work.
