Law firm’s turnover hits £95m in busy year

LAW firm Weightmans has announced an annual turnover of £95.1m, an increase of almost £6m on the previous year’s result of £89.2m.

The top 45 firm, which employs 240 staff in Birmingham as part of its 1,400-strong workforce, has seen income grow by more than 6% against the backdrop of difficult market conditions for the legal industry.

Over the last financial year, Weightmans made a series of investments that it said will see long term benefits for the business and its client base.

Highlights for Weightmans over the past 12 months have included its merger with Ford and Warren in Leeds and the launch of a new office in London EC3.

John Schorah, managing partner, said: “We have experienced a period of steady growth over the past year, which was an extremely busy one for the firm.

“In addition to opening new offices in Leeds and London, we have made key lateral hires, secured new customers and worked hard on enhancing the portfolio of current clients.

“We have invested heavily in responding to client needs and have developed sophisticated technologies to improve efficiencies and streamline our activity. We will continue to focus on this in the coming year, placing the client at the heart of everything we do.”
