Chinese automotive manufacturing contract to create 40 jobs

A SEVEN-YEAR contract to export engine components to China for the production of Ford cars will create 40 jobs in Coventry when work begins in 2018.
Unipart Manufacturing already employs around 380 people at its Powertrain Applications site where it exports 95% of its output to Europe and China.
The factory makes gasoline fuel rails for Ford and other car manufacturers which enable fuel to be injected into the engine under very high pressure to provide greater fuel efficiency.
The contract will start in 2018 and will result in a production increase of around 50% at the fuel rail facility in Coventry.
Unipart chairman John Neill said: “Competing on such a global scale requires the highest levels of productivity, use of the most advanced technologies, and the continual development of highly trained, highly engaged people who will go the extra mile for customers.”

The contract was won after Unipart was able to reduce costs by 15% following development work at the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering, its joint venture with Coventry University.
China is the largest global market for new car sales, selling 21m cars a year and producing 25m. Unipart operates 13 sites in China for car manufacturers, where it employs 330 people.
