Network Rail plans upgrade to Birmingham station

NETWORK Rail has applied for planning permission to carry out an upgrade to a Birmingham train station.

The body is planning on making a series of alterations to Longbridge Station.

The work includes internal and external improvements to the existing facility including alterations to the station building, a footbridge and the platform area, where new and extended waiting areas are set to be provided.

The plan, submitted to Birmingham City Council, is part of Network Rail’s ongoing strategy to improve stations throughout Greater Birmingham area.

The work would also fit in with the wider redevelopment of Longbridge, underpinned by the £100m town centre scheme developed by St. Modwen.

The proposals follow a major facelift to nearby Bromsgrove station, while a new facility is also being planned for Kenilworth.

Network Rail is also committed to providing a new station in Wolverhampton; a facility that will complement the wider regeneration of the city.
