Drinking from china with our pinky up whilst chatting over scones, cakes and sandwiches is probably one of the happiest scenarios in life, especially when there is a glass of champers involved.

It is National Afternoon Tea Week and Birmingham is completely spoilt for choice. Here are some of the best in the city for you to try…

1. Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill, Birmingham
If you fancy your afternoon tea with a breathtaking view, head up to level 25 of The Cube where you’ll find Marco Pierre White’s Steakhouse Bar & Grill. Enjoy panoramic views of Birmingham whilst enjoying traditional finger sandwiches, warm scones with clotted cream, seasonal preserves and a gorgeous daily cake selection. For a special occasion, you can treat yourself and upgrade to the Sparkling Afternoon Tea for £39 per couple.

 

Hotel du Vin Afternoon Tea2. Hotel du Vin
Hotel du Vin boasts three afternoon tea options. Choose a Cream Tea and relax with a scone and strawberry preserve, clotted cream and a choice of teas for £8.50. Alternatively, choose a Traditional Afternoon Tea for £16.50 and enjoy mixed finger sandwiches and a selection of cakes and tea breads. Or, go all out and choose a Champagne Afternoon Tea for £22.50, which is a traditional tea, but with a glass of champagne, everyone wins.

 

 

 

Harvey Nicks3. Harvey Nichols at The Mailbox
For an indulgent treat, enjoy a luxurious Champagne Afternoon Tea served in the most stylish of surroundings at Harvey Nichols in the Mailbox. Available daily from 3.30-5.30pm, enjoy a delicious assortment of handmade sandwiches, including rare beef and horseradish – scones, pastries and a glass of Harvey Nichols Champagne. Harvey Nichols’ Champagne Afternoon Tea is available at £30 per person.

BMAG Tea4. Birmingham Museum
Traditional Afternoon Tea in the Edwardian Tearooms includes delicious scones served with strawberry preserve and Devonshire clotted cream, a selection of sandwiches on farmhouse bread followed by an array of tasty afternoon cakes. All are served with a choice of loose leaf tea or freshly ground coffee. Afternoon Tea for Two gift vouchers are available to buy online for £27.

Malmaison 5. Malmaison at The Mailbox
For the savoury offering, try the hot smoked salmon and crème fraiche wraps, chipotle chicken and avocado wraps, and mini beef burgers. Follow this with sweet treats including a strawberry and vanilla pavlova, salted chocolate brownie, lemon and polenta cake, and a quintessentially British rhubarb and custard trifle. The Malmaison Afternoon Tea costs £17.50 per person or you can upgrade to a Champagne Afternoon Tea or Cocktail Afternoon Tea.

REP tea6. Birmingham REP
Classic Afternoon Teas at the Birmingham REP cost £12.00 and with that you can enjoy a selection of meat fish and vegetarian finger sandwiches, a selection of homemade cakes and gorgeous scones with clotted cream and preserve. Afternoon tea is served in a private suite, making it the perfect place to catch up with friends.

The Hyatt Regency has a wonderful Shakespeare themed afternoon tea. The team over at the hotel have created a special afternoon tea in order to celebrate the legacy of the world’s greatest playwright. Traditional afternoon tea can even be served with a Lady Macbeth cocktail. Traditional Afternoon Tea is priced at £19.95 per person and £29.95 for the Afternoon Tea served with a Lady Macbeth cocktail.

Spend your Saturday afternoons with Mr Hyde who puts on one hell of an impressive spread. Afternoon Tea costs £13.95 each and with that comes a wide selection of sandwiches, cakes and biscuits and of course, mini jam jars for that extra spread of Britishness. Afternoon tea comes with endless pots of tea, or you can upgrade to a Prosecco party instead for an extra £5, enjoy.
