Serious fire devastates Wolverhampton haulage firm

HUNDREDS of thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused to a Wolverhampton haulage business after a serious fire at the firm’s depot.

Fire crews from across the Black Country were drafted in to deal with the blaze at Majors Service, Hickman Avenue, in the early hours of yesterday (Sunday).

In total, 16 lorries and their trailers were damaged, with a number of the trucks totally gutted. It is thought the containers on the trailers were carrying items such as furniture and motorcycle parts.

Part of the problem for the firemen drafted in to deal with the blaze was the lack of access to the vehicles due to them being parked so close together. This meant that the fire spread very quickly and the kind of materials being consumed by the flames made dealing with the fire extra hazardous.

Firefighters were initially alerted to the incident at 1.30am after people reported hearing explosions.

At the height of the incident around 50 firefighters were involved, with a range of tenders involved including an aerial platform.

The firefighters spent most of the night tackling the blaze and were on scene throughout yesterday damping down.

The cause of the fire, the second serious incident on a Black Country trading estate in the space of a few days, is under investigation.
