Council seeks contractors to deliver new housing schemes

SHROPSHIRE-based sub-contractors are being sought to help deliver new residential developments in the county.

Telford & Wrekin Council through its wholly-owned housing company Nuplace is currently looking for firms to work on two projects.

The council set up Nuplace to build 400 new homes for the private rental market. Construction firm Lovell is currently the contractor working with Nuplace to deliver the second phase of the council’s investment programme, which includes developments at The Oaklands in Dawley and Miners’ Walk at Madeley Court.

Two further sites in Hadley and Newport are proposed subject to planning.

The Oaklands will comprise 92 two and three bedroom homes. This will see 47 new homes for private rent by Nuplace, with the remaining 45 homes being sold on the open market by Lovell.

Miners’ Walk will feature 53 units and is a mix of two and three bedroom homes, with houses set to be ready for occupation in spring next year. Work starts on construction of the new homes shortly.

Lovell is currently looking to appoint local building contractors and construction specialists to help them deliver the project.

Cllr Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin’s deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for local businesses to help Lovell deliver the second phase of the Nuplace programme.

“I hope businesses across the borough will take up the opportunity. We are proud to be a business winning and business supporting council and the more money that can be spent in the borough by our local businesses, the stronger the local economy will be.”
