Charity takes shelter at Birmingham office scheme

HOUSING and homelessness charity, Shelter, is expanding its base of operations in Birmingham.

The organisation already occupies the fourth floor of Gateway House in the city centre.

It has now signed a 10-year lease with building owner Real Estate Investors to take the fifth floor as well.

Earlier this year, health food chain Holland & Barrett opened a new store at ground and first floor level of the 50-53 High Street offices.

The second floor of the 27,000 sq ft building is currently being refurbished ready for future letting.

Ian Clark, senior asset manager at REI, said: “This shows confidence remains high in both Gateway House itself and the wider commercial property market.

“Gateway House is well positioned close to the Bullring, High Street and in the longer term, access to HS2.”

The new lease means Shelter will have taken a total of 8,000 sq ft in the building.

REI contributed towards fit-out costs.

Learndirect, the UK’s largest provider of skills, training and employment services, is a third tenant in the offices.
