Birmingham massage parlour set for new lease of life as HMO

A NOTORIOUS massage parlour on the outskirts of Birmingham city centre is set to be transformed into student accommodation under a new scheme submitted to the city council.

Police closed down the premises at 189 Hagley Road, Edgbaston last year following a raid in which eight women thought to be sex workers were rescued.

Police then obtained a court order banning the premises from re-opening. They have since been sold.

Student Letting Co has now submitted plans to Birmingham City Council to convert the suspected brothel into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) capable of accommodating eight students.

The company has commissioned Castle Architectural Design of Dudley to draw up the plans, although no structural alterations are planned to the property.

“The existing property was used as a massage parlour, which turned out to be in the legal brothel. The new owners wish to use the property for student letting,” states the application.
