Automotive firm relocates to avoid Birmingham jams

AN automotive lighting business has relocated to Redditch after agreeing a new three-year office lease.

The Lighting Consultants, which works with many of the leading automotive OEMs, has moved to unit 6 at the listed Empire Court building following a deal put together by property agents John Truslove.

The business has taken 1,214 sq ft of design space in the building, that was once the British Mills needle factory.

The Lighting Consultants has also taken on an additional unit on the same site to allow manufacture and assembly of its product designs.

The company employs seven people, partnering with other component makers to bring their lighting solutions to development.

Previously based around Fort Dunlop in Birmingham, the team wanted a less stressed drive to work while remaining in the heart of the automotive sector.

The firm, headed by managing director Chris Eardley, is predominantly involved in the interior lighting sector, covering ambient, contour/signature and dynamic lighting for the automotive OEMs.

Key clients include Jaguar Land Rover, McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Tata Motors and Audi.

The company has evolved from initial consultancy work in the early days through to low volume manufacturing. This was driven by ever more complicated prototypes to prove out light guide designs. To help with its work, the firm has developed a network of some of the most capable prototype and tool manufacturers around internationally.

Project director Richard Shepherd said: “Redditch is central to our client’s main operations and has a good transport network in and out – it is convenient for customers to get to us and convenient for us to get to them.

“And it was also central in relation to where we all live to allow us to journey to work without having to travel too far.”

John Truslove director Ian Parker said: “This is the sort of high technology company that Redditch is extremely keen to attract.

“Once again the town’s great transport links have pulled in a business which will be of great benefit to the industrial base.

“Hard-working executives are fed up of sitting in Birmingham traffic jams.”
