Wolverhampton tackles employment issues with new jobs fair

HUNDREDS of jobs and apprenticeship opportunities are being offered to people in Wolverhampton.

The Wolverhampton Jobs Fair, which has been organised as part of the build up to Wolverhampton Business Week, is being supported by a group of leading employers.

The city has seen some high profile business failures recently including the closure of BHS, redundancies at Lloyds Bank and further back, the closure of the Goodyear tyre factory.

More than 40 employers from across the city will be at the event including Royal Mail, KFC, Tarmac, Poundland, Wincanton/Scewfix and National Express.

Wolverhampton’s new ‘Impact’ team will also be on hand to offer advice and support to young adults aged between 16 and 29 who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET).

Cllr John Reynolds, Wolverhampton’s cabinet member for City Economy, said: “We have an ambitious long-term plan to encourage enterprise, reinvigorate our city and improve the prosperity of businesses and residents.

“This is an excellent opportunity for people looking for work or a change of career.”

The jobs fair will be held in the WV1 Suite at Molineux Stadium on Friday, September 9, from 9am to 1pm.

Wolverhampton Business Week will feature a programme of events aimed at businesses of all types and sizes and will take place between Monday, September 26 and Friday, September 30.

Organisers said the week would feature a programme of focused events supporting investment in the city, businesses and the city’s workforce. It is intended to be a platform to showcase the city’s achievements and ambitions, as well as an opportunity for businesses to help shape the city’s economic future.
