City set to celebrate investment opportunities during Business Week

INVESTMENT opportunities in a resurgent Wolverhampton will be highlighted when the city stages its third annual Business Week.

The City of Wolverhampton Council said the city was undergoing a transformation, with £3.7bn being pumped into its regeneration.

Benson Elliott, owner of the Mander Shopping Centre, is one stakeholder; currently investing £35m in its redevelopment of the facility in a major commitment to the city’s future.

Peter Cornforth, the company’s director of retail, will be one of the keynote speakers at a breakfast event during the week, which runs from Monday September 26 to Friday September 30.

Joining him will be Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) chairman, Stewart Towe, and City of Wolverhampton Council managing director, Keith Ireland.

Mr Cornforth said: “Wolverhampton’s proving itself to be a business friendly city with a real can do attitude.

“Partners across the city and region are working together to bring jobs, training, opportunity and prosperity to Wolverhampton, making it a great place to live, work, visit and do business.  Wolverhampton is most certainly making it happen.”

The city’s leading businesses, including Jaguar Land Rover, Moog, Marston’s, Thompson AVC, Liberty Industries, McCauliffe Group, Carillion, KPMG, National Express and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC are all expected to feature prominently during the course of the week.

A calendar of events has been lined up during the course of the week, including a Meet the Buyer session, a Dragons’ Den style investment pitch, a technology workshop and a business crime prevention meeting.

John Wood, chair of Wolverhampton’s Economic Growth Board, and director of Liberty Industries Group, said: “The programme for Business Week is bigger and better than ever before. I urge all businesses to take a look at the programme and participate in the free events.”

City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor John Reynolds, added: “Business Week is driven by business representatives in the city, for businesses.

“The free activities on offer support and encourage investment in the city, in existing and new businesses, in local supply chains and business to business networks, and in the local workforce.

“It creates opportunities to raise the profile of the city locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, and to celebrate and communicate achievements and future plans.”
