Black Country park undergoes £3m facelift with help from Yorkshire firm

A BLACK Country park has undergone a £3m makeover with support from a Yorkshire contractor.

Featherstone-based Route One completed the decorative surfacing at Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge in collaboration with Casey Group.

Route One was responsible for completing £20,000 of resurfacing work for the historic project.

The park, which opened in 1931, is a popular amenity in the town and is visited by around one million people every year.

The improvements, carried out as part of a Heritage Lottery project, have included a new café and refurbishments to the main gates, bandstand, war memorial and Heath Pool.

Route One was contracted by Casey Group to restore the decorative surfacing to the park’s entrances, whose gates are as old as the park itself.

Resin-bonded gravel was installed around four of the entrances and resin-bound to the main entrance.

The works were completed over one weekend so that the park faced minimal disruption.

Ashleigh Wilson, highways sales manager, Route One, said: “Casey Group are a major client of ours who we have built a strong relationship with. It has been a pleasure to support the heritage of one of our country’s longest standing parks and we look forward to working together on future projects.”
