Business Week promises to be Westside story for Wolverhampton firms

HUNDREDS of businesses from across Wolverhampton are being given the chance to pitch for work on the city’s new multi-million-pound Westside regeneration scheme.

The developer behind the £55m project, Urban & Civic, will be attending a Meet the Buyer event organised as part of the city’s Business Week, where it will outline some of the opportunities which could be available as part of the new scheme.

The event, which takes place at Molineux Stadium between 8-10am on Wednesday (September 28), is open to all firms interested in hearing about supplying goods or services to the development.

However, the event is not just limited to the Westside scheme, as delegates will also get the chance to hear from representatives from University of Wolverhampton, The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Hospital Trust, City of Wolverhampton Council, Wolverhampton Homes, and other private businesses.

Cllr John Reynolds, cabinet member for City Economy, said: “Partners in the city are working together to give local companies local procurement opportunities across all sectors.”

The University of Wolverhampton, which is in the middle of an ambitious plan to generate £250m of investment in the region, is one of the major partners in Business Week.

Its projects include the £100m Springfield Campus, creating a world-class centre of excellence for construction and the built environment, and the new Apprenticeship Hub, which is a one-stop destination for employers, parents, and apprentices to access valuable resources and support.

Professor Ian Oakes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said: “The University of Wolverhampton is delighted to be a key partner in Business Week 2016. We have a long and successful history of supporting new businesses to enable them to grow, develop and compete at a regional, national and international level.

“We are committed to investing in the regional economy and creating opportunities for people to enhance their skills and secure employment. The latest figures show that 96% of our graduates are in employment or further study six months after leaving us, 80% of which choose to stay in the West Midlands so we have a significant role in upskilling the local workforce.”
