New commercial quarter plans for city centre

THE latest scheme to change Birmingham’s skyline has been unveiled, with plans for the Axis building to be replaced by a new development next to the Mailbox.
Developer LCR has drawn up plans for One Axis Square, off Holliday Street in the city centre, which will include a 10-storey office block with 225,000 sq ft of space.
It plans to demolish the “dated” Axis building to deliver the scheme.
It wants this development to be “the first phase of a wider regeneration project to create a new commercial office quarter for Birmingham”.
The project has been put together by LCR, Skanska, Atkins.

The scheme is close to the Arena Central development and near to the Paradise development, which is transforming the westside part of the city centre, and could help to better join up part of that area.
In a separate move, the developers of Arena Central submitted a planning application for 3 Arena Central, which would be a 241,000 sq ft office building that could be delivered by the first quarter of 2019.
