All change at the head of EY’s Midlands Tax practice

EY has announced a series of high level changes to its Tax practice in the Midlands.

The changes see partner Andrew Spence appointed as Head of Tax for the Midlands in succession to Graeme Crawford.

Mr Spence will be focused on growing the existing business and expanding into new service areas to meet the firm’s ambitious growth targets.

Mr Spence is currently a tax partner, based in the firm’s Birmingham office. Over the last 14 years he has worked with some of the region’s largest companies including FTSE 100, private equity, family-owned and entrepreneurial businesses. He also leads EY’s Entrepreneur Of The Year programme in the Midlands.

EY’s Tax practice has seen 17% growth over the past year, following the creation of the firm’s Entrepreneurial Services team, which supports mid-market and fast-growth entrepreneurial businesses in the Midlands.

The firm has also strengthened its Tax practice with the appointment of partner Joanne Kaveney-Davis to lead EY’s People Advisory Services team (an integrated practice combining experience from Tax and the firm’s consultancy business) and appointed partner Mark Minihane in EY’s Business Tax team to lead the growing inbound market.

The changes also see Mr Spence’s predecessor move into a Global Client Service partner role at EY, where he will be working with some of the firm’s biggest global clients.

Mr Crawford will lead key accounts across the Midlands and other parts of the UK, with a particular focus on bringing the firm’s global services to its largest clients and will continue to be lead partner on a number of these.

Mr Spence said: “EY’s regional business has gone from strength to strength, reflecting the continued investment we’re making in our people, business and brand, as well as the confidence we’re seeing in the marketplace. We have a talented team and a clear focus on developing our Tax practice across the Midlands, by growing the existing business and expanding into new service areas.”

Debbie O’Hanlon, National Markets Leader at EY, added: “This appointment is linked to EY’s commitment to grow our mid-market business. We have big ambitions for our regional business and Andrew has an important role to play in building our local Tax practice and supporting our wider growth ambitions in the Midlands.”
