Birmingham firm quits power station demolition after tragic deaths of workers

THE Birmingham company which saw four of its workers killed when they were trapped under thousands of tons of rubble following a building collapse at Didcot A Power Station earlier this year has confirmed it will not be continuing with the project.

The four men were all working for Great Barr-based Coleman & Company when the accident happened in February.

In a short statement, the company said: “Coleman & Company can announce that we will not be continuing with the remaining demolition and site clearance work at Didcot A Power Station.

“We agreed with site owners RWE, that this is in the best interests of all parties.

“We would like to thank RWE for their support over the last two years.”

The company said all staff working at Didcot would be redeployed onto other major projects.

A specialist team comprising representatives from Thames Valley Police, Thames Valley Fire and Rescue’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) and the South Central Ambulance Service Hazardous Area Recovery Team (HART) recovered the bodies from the scene.
