Tata chairman ousted in boardroom drama

THE chairman of Tata Sons, which owns Jaguar Land Rover and Tata Steel, has been ousted.

Cyrus Mistry, who was appointed in 2012, was the first chairman of the company to come from outside the Tata family in more than 80 years.

Former chairman Ratan Tata has replaced him while a successor is sought.

In a short statement, Tata Sons said Mr Mistry had been replaced “with immediate effect” following a board meeting. No reasons were given for his departure.

Mr Mistry was previously managing director of construction group Shapoorji Pallonji, and has been a director of Tata Sons since August 2006.

He is a graduate of civil engineering from Imperial College, London, and has a master of science in management from the London Business School.

His father is construction entrepreneur Pallonji Mistry.
