Engineering works cause major disruption to Midlands rail services

RAIL passengers in the West Midlands are facing severe disruption to their journeys for the next 12 days as a series of engineering works begins.

Engineering work is taking place between Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa, closing the line between Barnt Green, Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa.

Bromsgrove station is closed for the duration of the work. Ironically, the station only reopened earlier this year following a £24m redevelopment.

A series of replacement bus services and alternative trains will operate during the closure.

On CrossCountry, trains between Bromsgrove and Cheltenham Spa will be diverted via Kidderminster, extending journey times by up to 60 minutes. Trains will not call at University and Bromsgrove.

Replacement buses will operate between Longbridge and Bromsgrove. Passengers for University will be offered the chance to use London Midland services, however, that operator is also facing disruption to its services.

On London Midland, for services between Birmingham and Hereford trains will operate between Hereford and Worcester. A limited train service will operate between Birmingham New Street and Hereford, diverted via Kidderminster at certain times.

Replacement bus services will operate between:

•    Bromsgrove and Longbridge, where passengers can change to alternative frequent train services to University and Birmingham
•    Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa where passengers can change to alternative train services towards Worcester, Great Malvern and Hereford.

On Sunday, trains between Birmingham New Street and Hereford will be diverted via Kidderminster and not call at stations via Bromsgrove. A replacement bus service will operate between Bromsgrove and Droitwich Spa, where passengers can connect to a train.

There will also be a revised timetable for services between Stratford-upon-Avon / Leamington Spa to Birmingham Snow Hill, Stourbridge Junction, Worcester Shrub Hill / Foregate Street and Great Malvern

From today (October 26) until Friday November 4, a revised timetable will operate between Birmingham Snow Hill, Stourbridge Junction, Worcester and Great Malvern.

Additionally, some services between Stratford-upon-Avon and Stourbridge Junction will operate between Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham Snow Hill.

Non-folding bicycles are not allowed on rail replacement bus services at any time. Folding bicycles are allowed if fully folded.
