Great British Bake Off proves the perfect recipe for Birmingham

HUNDREDS of Great British Bake Off fans headed to Waterstones in Birmingham city centre today (Friday) to meet the three finalists of this year’s competition.

The popular BBC One show, which will soon be moving to Channel 4, ended on Wednesday night. Candice Brown, from Bedfordshire, won the show after being named ‘Star Baker’ three times.

Candice, a graduate of University of Birmingham, was a PE teacher before starring on the show. Before viewers began to see just how much of an incredible baker she was, it was her lipstick shades that stole the show every week after wearing a new colour each episode. She was also popular with viewers for her occasional naughty puns and friendships she had with her fellow bakers.

Many of her bakes were inspired by her childhood after her family ran pubs whilst she grew up. One week she crafted an impressive classic British pub out of gingerbread.

Candice was joined by fellow finalists Andrew Smyth and Jane Beedle at Waterstones as they signed copies of ‘The Great British Bake Off – Perfect Cakes & Bakes to Make at Home’ for excited fans who were also eager to snap a photo with the stars.

Before signing books with fans, Candice was joined by a university friend and they caught up while Andrew and Jane discussed how excited they were to be meeting fans. In fact, they appeared nervous as Andrew worried about whether he looked better with a jacket on or off for photos.

They were all surprised at just how many people had shown up at Waterstones to meet them and fans waved and squealed in excitement whilst queuing.

However, all three were tight lipped about the future of the Great British Bake Off and what they had in store next.

Last year’s winner Nadiya Hussain earned a reported £1m for her recipe book which has since become a bestseller after selling 25,000 copies since June.

Nadiya has also landed deals with the BBC, which has left fans of the show questioning if Candice will have the same opportunity.

The finalists will continue their book tour across the UK over the next week.
