Birmingham law firm backs new student mentoring scheme

A BIRMINGHAM law firm is mentoring students at the University of Wolverhampton to offer them an insight into the legal profession.

DWF in Birmingham is giving the law students access to staff from junior solicitors right through to those at partner level.

The scheme has already been successful with two University of Wolverhampton Law School graduates being offered permanent roles at the firm.

Under the scheme, students are matched with a mentor who is appropriate to their career interests. Following a presentation from the law firm, students arrange meetings with their mentor to discuss areas of interest and gain invaluable experience that will help their employability.

The mentoring scheme also enables the law firm to build a relationship with the University, meet talented students and grow their business.

Head of Law, Sukhninder Panesar, said: “The University of Wolverhampton Law School is committed to preparing our students for the legal profession through access to invaluable practical experience.  

“We’re delighted to be working with DWF on this mentor scheme, which enables us to gain further insight into the types of attributes they are looking for in graduates entering practice while also enabling the company to meet talented students.”

This year’s scheme will be officially launched at an event at DWF’s Birmingham offices on November 8, 2016, where previous mentees will attend to thank their mentors.
