Police investigate fire at Amazon warehouse

STAFFORDSHIRE POLICE are investigating a fire that started in the early hours of Sunday morning at Amazon’s warehouse in Rugeley.
An emergency call was made at 2.10am yesterday and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene with six appliances. The fire in the picking area of the distribution facility was contained before Staffordshire Police forensic investigators were able to examine the scene of the incident.
Amazon has created 4,500 temporary jobs at its Rugeley site, quadrupling the number of people working there in the run-up to Christmas.
The Staffordshire site was built in 2011, initially creating 900 jobs. Two years ago it expanded the site at Towers Business Park which significantly increased its capacity and enabled it to recruit many more people for its seasonal spikes.
Police are investigating and have requested anyone with information call them on 101 or call Crimestoppeers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
