Building society set to relocate city centre base

BUILDING society, the West Brom is to relocate its flagship branch in Birmingham city centre.

The society is moving from Colmore Row to 67 New Street.

It is in the process of refurbishing the new site and plans to begin trading there from November 29.  It has operated from Colmore Row for the past 25 years, but it said the relocation was warranted as it would take the mutual back to the heart of the city’s retail district.

James Wright, Director of Marketing and Distribution, said: “We think our new branch on New Street will offer customers greater convenience, particularly given its proximity to Grand Central and the recently extended Midland Metro line.

“It also gives us the opportunity to bring our Birmingham branch fully in line with the society’s updated brand identity, enhancing the overall customer experience.”

The New Street building offers 1,234 sq ft of space on the ground floor and the let has been taken on a ten-year lease agreement.  Following its refurbishment, the branch will feature three counter points and two private consultation rooms.

Services will include access to the society’s full range of savings, mortgage, insurance and protection products. Customers will be able to meet with a personal mortgage consultant to discuss their home-buying needs and book appointments with an independent financial adviser to assist with their investments.

The West Brom in Birmingham employs five members of staff, led by Retail Manager Steve Perry, and all will transfer across to New Street when the relocation is completed.

Founded in 1849, the West Brom is the seventh largest building society in the UK.  It has 446,000 members and runs 37 branches throughout Birmingham, the Black Country, Shropshire and mid-Wales.
