JLR workers vote overwhelmingly to accept new pay deal

WORKERS at Jaguar Land Rover have voted overwhelmingly to accept a new pay deal claimed to be “exceptional” by their union.

Unite declared support for the new offer following a ballot of its members at the firm’s various plants.

More than three quarters (77%) of those voting backed the union’s recommendation to accept the offer, which gives the thousands of workers a two-year pay deal of 3.5%, plus a £750 bonus in year one, with an inflation-proofed retail price index (RPI) plus 0.5% rise in year two.

The deal, which will be backdated to November 1 this year, affects workers at JLR’s operations in Castle Bromwich, Coventry, Halewood, Solihull and Wolverhampton.

Commenting, Unite national officer Roger Maddison said: “This exceptional pay deal is no less than the workforce at JLR deserve and is recognition of their continued hard work which has made the carmaker such a world beater.

“It is testament to workforce’s skills and dedication that JLR can look to the future with confidence and only right they share in the carmaker’s continued success.”
