Wasps out to sting the opposition as European rugby heads for the Ricoh

RUGBY fans can enjoy a taste of the European Champions Cup in the West Midlands this weekend when Wasps and Pro 12 champions Connacht go head-to-head at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday.

The winner will top Pool Two heading into the fourth round, giving them a big chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

Connacht currently sit at the top of Pool Two, with Wasps just behind in second – both teams are unbeaten but Sunday’s visitors have managed to secure victories in their opening two games, while Wasps have won one and drawn one.

Fans are also being urged to arrive early to sample a bumper Wasps Fan Village inside the Ericsson Exhibition Hall, which opens with fairground rides at 10.30am, followed by a performance of Irish dancing from MCBD Academy Midlands.

The game kicks off at 1pm.

Verity Brown, community development manager at Wasps, said: “This is a massive game for both teams, with the winner guaranteed to top Pool Two as they head into the fourth round, and given the extra activities in the fan village, we’d encourage supporters to arrive at the ground early.

“The fairground went down an absolute treat with fans last year as thousands of people packed inside the fan village to check it out, so we couldn’t resist bringing it back to give our supporters an early Christmas present.

“There’s always a fun-filled carnival atmosphere when the Irish are in town, and the fairground means it promises to be a great family day out.”

On the day fans can also test out their passing, tackling and shooting skills in the Wasps Interactive Zone. Rock band Wired will be playing live, while youngsters can enjoy face painting.
