HS2 chairman takes up role with Gatwick Airport

SIR David Higgins, the executive chairman of HS2, has accepted a similar role at Gatwick Airport.
HS2 already has an interim management team in place, after chief executive Simon Kirby left to join Rolls Royce. Roy Hill is interim chief executive with a replacement expected to be announced early in the new year and in post by mid-2017.
A HS2 spokesperson said Sir David would remain with the railway body “for at least another year”.

Sir David, who was knighted in 2011, has previously been chief executive of English Partnerships, the 2012 Olympics Delivery Authority and Network Rail.

Last month the Government confirmed the route for phase two of the scheme, which travels north from Birmingham, to Manchester and Leeds.
It said the new routes between Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and London would deliver 14,900 seats per hour, more than the 4,700 provided currently.
