Businesses in rural Warwickshire set to benefit from high speed broadband

MORE than 30 communities across Warwickshire are set to benefit from the rollout of high-speed fibre broadband across the county.

The CSW Broadband partnership said it was expansion the installation of the network because of the strong take-up of the new technology.

The decision means a further 3,500 households and businesses in some of the county’s smallest communities will benefit from high-speed broadband for the first time.

BT, which is partnering with Warwickshire County Council in the programme, is allocating £2m to the project, which has been triggered by strong take-up of fibre broadband by local households and businesses.

Nearly 40% of county households and businesses able to upgrade to the new technology as a result the CSW Broadband rollout have chosen to do so – a figure which is among the highest levels of take-up in the country.

The upgrade work will begin in the summer and take around 18 months to complete.

Currently, CSW Broadband engineers are working on installation programmes in Barford, Claverdon, Dunchurch, Haseley Knob and Southam. This should see hundreds more people eligible to join the high-speed network by the spring.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire’s cabinet member for finance and property, said: “The CSW Broadband project is taking the superfast coverage even further than we had originally envisaged.

“This latest announcement shows the commitment of the funding partners to ensuring that residents and businesses are able to benefit from the modern communications technology that is so often taken for granted by those who already have superfast access.”

Ian Binks, BT’s regional manager for Warwickshire and the West Midlands, said: “Our CSW Broadband partnership has already made huge progress in making fibre broadband available across Warwickshire. This expansion is great news for those communities in the county not included in the current roll-out programme.”

The CSW Broadband partnership has enabled more than 56,000 premises across the county to have access to faster fibre broadband.
