Airline codeshare agreement set to boost services from Birmingham Airport

SERVICES at Birmingham Airport have been boosted by a new codesharing agreement between airlines Flybe and Finnair.

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has signed an agreement with Helsinki-based Finnair which will see the Finnish flag carrier extend its UK reach.

The deal means passengers will benefit from seamless connections with Finnair from an additional four European cities served by Flybe – Birmingham, Cardiff, Doncaster Sheffield and Southampton.

Finnair’s AY code has been added to the following routes operated by Flybe:
•         Cardiff/Doncaster-Sheffield/Birmingham/Southampton to Paris Charles de Gaulle
•         Birmingham/Southampton to Dusseldorf
•         Birmingham/Southampton/Doncaster-Sheffield to Amsterdam; and
•         Birmingham to Berlin

The codeshare between the two airlines allows passengers to book flights direct from 11 UK airports with Finnair or through a travel agent.

In addition to better domestic routes, business passengers looking to open new global trade links will also be able to tap into Finnair’s extensive Asian network – including China.

Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s chief revenue officer, said: “The extension of our well-established codeshare partnership with Finnair now offers our customers yet more opportunity to travel to and from the UK regions. It gives both Flybe and Finnair increased network reach and reinforces our commitment to provide customers with convenient seamless ‘One Stop to the World’ connections from their local airport.”

Philip Lewin, head of partnerships and alliances at Finnair, added: “Our growing partnership with Flybe will provide UK travellers with better travel options and even more convenient connections to Finnair’s extensive network in Asia.”

Flybe established its successful codeshare agreement with Finnair in 2014, facilitating travel on Flybe-operated routes between Manchester and eight UK regional airports – Aberdeen, Belfast City, Edinburgh, Exeter, Isle of Man, Jersey, Newquay and Southampton.
