Traffic Alert: Long delays on M5 after accident closes three lanes

The situation has now cleared and traffic conditions have returned to normal.

There are long delays reported on the M5 northbound between Junction 2 at Oldbury and the connection with the M6 following a serious accident.

The hard shoulder and lanes one and two are both said to be closed, with tailbacks stretching back almost to Junction 4 at Bromsgrove.

Highways England is warning of delays of around 90 minutes against normal journey times. Traffic is also slow on the southbound carriageway past the incident.

The cause of the accident is not known but there are reports of thick fog in the area.

Recovery work is taking place but conditions are not expected to return to normal until after 11am.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible and to allow extra time for the journeys.
