Birmingham firm wins £5m contract to fit out innovative London housing scheme

Birmingham building services provider J S Wright has won a £5m contract to fit out an innovative award-winning residential scheme for active older people in north London.

The firm will equip PegasusLife’s Hampstead Green Place development with the largest combined mechanical and electrical services package since the business expanded into the electrical sector.

Rise Management Consultancy has commissioned J S Wright, which has its headquarters in Aston and offices in Bristol and London, to fit out all 59 one and two bedroom apartments and social facilities at the scheme.

The housing scheme won a 2016 Housing Design Award for meeting the recommendations of the Housing Our Ageing Population Panel for Innovation.

J S Wright will install a central plant room with a combined heat and power unit to serve the development, which is designed with chamfered brick openings across interlinked blocks of six to ten storeys with stunning views of London’s skyline.

The company will also install swimming pool plant, a mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system and water sprinklers, along with lighting and power systems, warden call and voice & data systems and an emergency generator to meet the needs of discerning residents aged 55 and over.

It will start work on site in April this year.

The scheme also includes a lounge, gym, stretch studio and a café open to the public, with completion scheduled for spring 2018.

J S Wright has expanded into electrical services following a second successive year in which sales have exceeded £30m.

Paul Featherston, Regional Director for London and the South East, has taken on the additional role of National Electrical Contracts Director, while Birmingham-based Phil Leech is now the company’s National Mechanical Contracts Director.

Marcus Aniol, J S Wright managing director, said: “We are delighted that such a prestigious new client has awarded us our biggest mechanical and electrical services contract, while we continue to serve existing clients with the support of our long-standing electrical partners.”

J S Wright, which was founded in Birmingham in 1890, specialises in the design and installation of mechanical and electrical services for the hotel, residential, social housing, student accommodation, leisure and commercial sectors.
