WSP appointed to service 3 Arena Central

Birmingham professional services consultancy WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has been appointed to deliver a range of multi-disciplinary services to 3 Arena Central.

Appointed by developer Arena Central Development, a joint venture led by Miller Developments, WSP is providing services including structural engineering, geo-environmental investigation, demolition, traffic and transportation, civil / drainage, rail asset approval, acoustics and fire.

Alongside its office space, the 14-storey 240,782 sq ft development will offer a fully fitted reception at ground floor and retail or restaurant provision of circa 3,148 sq ft. It has been designed to maximise space for tenants with floorplates of up to 17,957 sq ft around an offset core.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff director Malcolm Davidson said: “We are delighted to be working on such a high-profile city centre development, and the appointment is testament to our long-standing relationship with Miller Developments and our expertise in a range of areas relating to engineering and consultancy, which we have already demonstrated on other local sites including Three Snow Hill and the Bullring.

“Arena Central will play a big part in bolstering the city’s office market, and offers the prestige required in what is fast becoming recognised as a world-class city.”

3 Arena Central has been designed by architects Make, and will aim to achieve BREEAM Excellent and EPC A standards. The nine-acre Arena Central site, which has outline planning consent in place for the delivery of more than 1 million sq ft of high quality commercial space and ancillary retail and leisure uses, will also become the home to HSBC’s ring-fenced UK banking division, which has taken the full 240,000 sq ft at 2 Arena Central.

Construction on the new HQ building is set to complete later this year, with HSBC set to take occupancy in 2018.
