Stolen JLR engines worth £3m recovered in dawn raids

Engines worth £3m stolen from Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant have been recovered in dawn raids by police.

Acting on information, officers swooped on locations in Kingsbury Road, Minworth, and Bermuda Industrial Park in Nuneaton early yesterday and discovered the stolen power units.

By coincidence, JLR has a big warehouse unit at Prologis Park Midpoint in Minworth.

Police launched an investigation on January 31 after an articulated truck twice entered the Land Rover site in Lode Lane, each time hooking up to trailers where the engines were stored.

Since the theft, detectives have arrested four men aged 29, 40, 47 and 56 on suspicion of conspiracy to steal. All four have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The recovered engines have been seized by the police and are to undergo forensic examination by specialist officers.

Detectives investigating the theft have appealed for witnesses who may have information on the theft or who saw anything suspicious at the Minworth or Nuneaton sites in the last few weeks to come forward.

Detective Inspector Darren Lee, from Solihull’s Investigation Team, said: “This has been a fast-paced inquiry and after searching two locations we have seized what we believe are the stolen engines.

“This is a significant find and we continue to investigate the theft.”
