Lighting firm set to shine after acquisition

A Staffordshire lighting firm has been acquired by a multi-national business in a deal part advised in the West Midlands.

LAUK Lighting, based at the Beacon Business Park, supplies lighting services to retail customers across the UK, including specialist energy-efficient lighting design, supply and retail fit-out logistics services.

Following a management buyout in 2002, LAUK was acquired by Next Wave Partners. The sale of the company now sees Next Wave exit the business.

LAUK has been acquired by H&K International, which supplies kitchen equipment to restaurants. Founded in Canada and headquartered in Dublin, H&K International has major customers based in North America, Latin America and Europe. The group is well-known for completing significant commercial projects, including the world’s largest McDonalds at the London Olympics.

BDO’s Mergers & Acquisitions team in Birmingham advised the private equity shareholders of LAUK on the deal, the terms of which have not been disclosed. The team was led by John Stephan and Simon Ling.

Legal advice was from Fox Williams’s lead partner Andrew Woolf, with Macfarlanes’ James McCredie supplying tax and structuring advice.
