Drivers using the M6 in Birmingham have been warned of long delays on the southbound carriageway following an accident between a car and a lorry.

The accident, between Spaghetti Junction – exit for the A38 Aston Expressway – and Junction 5, Castle Bromwich, has resulted in the closure of two lanes and delays between the two junctions are already said to be 30 minutes.

Traffic is at a standstill between the two junctions and tailbacks stretch north to Junction 7, Great Barr.

Highways England has said conditions are not expected to return to normal until nearly 3pm to allow for recovery.
