Rogers’ replacement named by Birmingham City Council

Birmingham City Council has confirmed that Angela Probert will step in as chief executive in the wake of last week’s defenestration of Mark Rogers.
The departure of Rogers, who led the city council since 2014 after a seven-year stint in charge at Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, was announced in a Sunday afternoon statement a week ago.
A second announcement has now positioned his exit as “taking early retirement”, which is effective from tomorrow.
In a statement, the city council said it expects to have an interim chief executive in post shortly and that it is also to begin the recruitment process for a permanent appointment.
It added: “In the meantime, the immediate focus of Cabinet and CLT is to continue to implement the Future Operating Model and deliver a balanced budget for 2017/18.”
Probert, who is currently strategic director for Change and Support Services, will act up, and Chris Gibbs will join the corporate leadership team covering her role.
She has been at Birmingham City Council since January 2016, joining from Nottingham City Council, where she spent 15 years over two stints.
