Leading Midlands property figure dies

One of the Midlands’ most experienced commercial property figures has died.

Steve Burke was Group Construction Director at Longbridge-based regeneration specialist St. Modwen Properties.

The company announced his death, which occurred on Monday (March 13) in a brief statement to the London Stock Market.

It said: “It is with great sadness that St. Modwen announces that Steve Burke, Group Construction Director and member of the board since 2006, died last night (March 13).”

Mark Allan, Chief Executive, St. Modwen, added: “The board and staff of St. Modwen would like to extend their sincere condolences to Steve’s family. Steve was a great friend, mentor and inspiration to many in the business and across the property and construction industry. He will be sorely missed.”

Mr Burke’s responsibilities as Group Construction Director will pass to senior colleagues for the immediate future.

Mr Burke was first appointed as a director of the business in November 2006. His key strengths were said to be his strong operational leadership and project management experience in the construction sector including brownfield reclamation.

He first joined St. Modwen in 1995 as a Contracts Surveyor after a number of years’ construction experience in senior roles with national contracting companies including Balfour Beatty and Clarke Construction. He was appointed Construction Director in 1998, before being elevated to the board eight years’ later.
