Construction Rocks: Battle of the Construction Industry Bands launches in Birmingham

Birmingham professional services consultancy WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff is calling on the West Midlands construction industry’s musical talent to go forth into battle, in a bid to raise money for a local charity.

The Queen’s Drive based firm is inviting professionals from the industry to form a company band to battle it out at Construction Rocks, Battle of the Construction Industry Bands – an initiative conceived by Bill Price of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff and Nigel Fraser of Westone Consulting in 2007. It has raised more than £110,000 since its inception, for various charities, from these annual events. The charity that will benefit from next year’s ‘battle’ in the Midlands is Network Four.

The WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Birmingham office’s band consists of Becca Fagan, Alex Hill, Phil Holden, Alexander Lee and Elaine Roberts, who form Not to Scale.

Elaine, who is coordinating the event for WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff in Birmingham, said: “This competition is a fun way for professionals to let their hair down and display their musical talents among industry peers in a social context, whilst raising money for great causes. It’s an amateur competition, so we are encouraging even the most shy and retiring of musicians to take part and realise their rock star dreams. The competition also welcomes solo artists, for the very brave”!

“We have chosen NetworkFour as the charity for this year because we want to support vulnerable people locally. NetworkFour work with hundreds of vulnerable young people, adults and families in crisis in the West Midlands each year and assist them to rebuild their lives and take positive steps forward.”

The latest battle, which took place in London, raised £21,000 for Landaid, which aims to tackle youth homelessness in the UK. Winners were chosen for the categories of Best New Band, Best Performance and Best Fundraiser, with gongs being scooped by organisations including Savills and Balfour Beatty.

The competition is open now for entries, with the closing date on 31 March 2017 and the competition take place in May 2017. Entrants must email Birmingham-Construction.Rocks@wspgroup.com to receive their entry form and criteria details. Further information on previous events is available at the Construction Rocks website.
