York Press Business Award winners announced

HESLINGTON hi-tech venture Xceleron, which started life as a spin-out company from the University of York, was the big winner at this year's York Press Business Awards.

The company scooped the award for Science & Technology Business Of The Year before going on to win the overall John Guy Memorial Award to become The Press Business Of The Year.

And former University of York vice-chancellor Sir Ron Cooke was presented with a lifetime achievement award in recognition of his "tireless devotion to bettering York's stature and prosperity".

More than 300 people attended the awards event held at York Racecourse. on Thursday, November 15.

The event proved a good night for the city's web design companies with 9xb.com and Purenet Solutions winning The Small Business Of The Year and NewBusiness of the Year titles.

De Bretton boss, David Hattersley, was awarded Business Personality Of The Year. He is the owner of a private collection of North Yorkshire properties andrestaurants including York's 700-year-old Lendal Tower and the four-star Marmadukes Hotel.

Young Business Entrepreneur Of The Year: Dan Savage, of Artstop studios, York

International Trade Award: Sheppee International

Large Business of the Year: Superbreak Mini-Holidays
