Glass manufacturer signs up to Europort following major blaze

A major letting has been secured at Wakefield Europort with Allied Glass signing up for 190,000 sq ft to replace the factory in Leeds that was destroyed by a blaze last year.

The distribution warehouse had been fully refurbished by its owners, Edinburgh-based Parabola and the rent agreed is £4.25 per sq ft.

The former site of Allied Glass at Crossgates in Leeds was destroyed by a blaze in October 2016. More than 100 firefighters attended the fire.

Barry Woods, director at Parabola commented: “We are delighted that we now have a high quality occupier on a long-term lease at Wakefield Eurohub.  Allied Glass are a superb Yorkshire-based company, and we are thrilled to work with them to facilitate their expansion.

“The letting has also vindicated our strategy of comprehensively refurbishing a second-hand building to a high quality specification.  I would also like to thank our agency team for their hard work and expertise in securing this letting.”

Sanderson Weatherall acted on behalf of Allied Glass and Knight Frank on behalf of Edinburgh-based owners, Parabola Capital.

Jonathon White, industrial agent at Leeds-based property consultancy Sanderson Weatherall said: “We are pleased to have secured this great facility for Allied Glass. I have no doubt that the Eurohub premises, located at the heart of such an established distribution centre, will be a fantastic home for the business as it continues to grow.”

Rebecca Schofield, partner with Knight Frank’s industrial property team in Yorkshire, said: “This is one of the most significant industrial property deals in Yorkshire during the past 12 months. Wakefield Eurohub was the only warehouse of this size available to lease in West Yorkshire and it is a wonderful opportunity for Allied Glass.”

The joint marketing agent with Knight Frank for Wakefield Eurohub was Steve Moriarty of Moriarty and Co.
