MP Hilary Benn at the school
EMPLOYEES from Barclays in Leeds swapped bank notes for blackboards when they joined forces with a school to raise financial understanding amongst young people.
MP Hilary Benn, who visited Beeston Primary School as part of the venture, said: "The children really enjoyed thinking about how to handle money and the kind of choices we have to make. It was very interesting, and the school is very grateful for the support that Barclays has given it."
The initiative is part of the bank’s newly launched Barclays Money Skills programme, which offers employees the opportunity to volunteer and share their business knowledge with young people, helping them come to grips with the importance of understanding and managing money in a practical and fun way.
Two Barclays’ employees, Vicki Johnson and Sabiha Patel, delivered the session.
Marie Morris, Barclays Community Investment Manager, North East, said: “Barclays Money Skills is all about improving the financial capability of young people across the UK.
“In addition to providing funding to charities working with young people to help them increase their money skills, we aim to make a real impact by encouraging our staff to volunteer using their professional skills through this programme."
