Big names take to the Top Table

Victor Watson and David Mitchell toast the launch of the Top Table Club
A TRADITIONAL luncheon club where invited guests from the business community enjoy a leisurely offering of succulent fare complemented by fine wines and spirits has been launched by a man who believes it's time to turn the clock back to those nostalgic days when a lunch was truly a lunch.
"The Gordon Gecko philosophy that 'lunch is for wimps' has no place in the Top Table Luncheon Club," says David Mitchell, chief executive of professional services group Mitchells, based in Leeds, London and Harrogate.
His comments came at the launch of the Club at La Grillade, a Leeds restaurant where the clientele is never knowingly under lunched, and where the Club will meet on a quarterly basis.
"It's all about great food, fine wine and entertaining after-dinner speaking," said Mr Mitchell. "We are looking to buck the trend of networking over a canapé or a bacon roll. This is a return to the good old days of an entertaining and robust lunch and certainly some guests were still enjoying the hospitality into the late afternoon and early evening."
The inaugural guest speaker was renowned business figure Victor Watson, former chief executive of printing, packaging and toys group Waddington plc, whose grandfather introduced Monopoly to the UK.

Im glad to see that someone else is arranging convivial lunches where businessmen can meet . I have been arranging "The Leisurely Lunch" at Hotel du Vin in Harrogate which hosts a lunch every quarter since 2004 which has proved to be very popular amongst the business community from Leeds and Harrogate.
