Events boost for SIV

SHEFFIELD’S ambitions to compete with other national events programmes was reinforced after Sheffield International Venues announced a 39% increase in event numbers in 2012.

The city, through SIV, demonstrated its skills in managing multi-venue events, attracting the attention of national events buyers and providing a diverse range of facilities.

Major events included the NUS Conference, SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers Association) Beer X conference and exhibition and the national Fitness Industry Association Awards.

And following a successful 2012, SIV Events is ready to host and stage a diverse range of sport, business and entertainment events this year.

Dominic Stokes, general manager of SIV Events, the function responsible for events, concerts and ticketing for Sheffield International Venues , said: “We have a really exciting few months ahead with around 20 conferences, banquets as well as the School Games, the British Transplant Games and our entertainments programme.

“What’s great about these events is that they illustrate our success in managing completely diverse multi-venue events.

“Sheffield may be without a convention centre but by combining our venues we have an imposing product.”

He added: “We’re competing with established cities like Manchester and London but we’re still making an impression with national event buyers. Our approach saw business increase by 39% last year and I have ambitious plans for even more growth this year.”
