Construction company raises £7K in Peaks challenge
2nd July 2009
An team from Shepherd Construction has raised £7,000 for Care International after finishing second in the gruelling Care 24 Peaks Challenge race.
The six team members completed the race to climb 24 peaks in the Lake District in just 24 hours. After completing 35 miles and 15,500ft of climbing, just 15 minutes separated the Shepherd team from the winners, with a time of 21 hours and six minutes. This year is the first time that the challenge has been organised specifically for the construction industry.
The Shepherd team, who are all based in Yorkshire, comprised Peter Gleave, Jon Mangham, Simon Dodson, Rob Rushworth, Dan Miller and Dave Nolan (who had completed the National Three Peaks Challenge three weeks before this event), with Jonathan Appleyard as the team's support driver.
Peter Gleave commented: "After all the months of training it was a fantastic achievement and a great team building event. It is extremely rewarding to have completed such a gruelling challenge and to have raised a significant amount for such a worthwhile charity."
Care International is one of the top three development agencies in the world and supports some of the most important construction projects, including emergency shelters, re-building schools, constructing health centres and providing homes for families whose homes and lives have been devastated by war.
