Deirdre Bounds, Steve Phillip & Benjamin Howard of Specialized Bikes.
AUTHOR, entrepreneur and one of Yorkshire's biggest success stories Deirdre Bounds is known for her straight talking approach - so when she told client, and fellow business coach, Steve Phillip to get on his bike, he did just that.
Local Yorkshire businessman, and founder of personal branding and leadership development organisation Red fm, Mr Phillip has been working with Deirdre on her Personal Revolution programme.
As the result he's exploring his own life challenges and aspirations and set himself a grand goal - to undertake one of the most extreme cycle challenges in the world.
More used to working with his own clients to help them achieve their goals, Steve now has a target of this own when later this month he'll fly to Switzerland to cycle over 180 miles in just 3 days, conquering 6 mountain climbs, with altitudes of up to 2550 metres made famous by the Tour de France.
Mr Phillip said; "A few years ago my family and I were faced with the incredible challenge of nursing my mother in law at home, whilst she suffered the trauma of dealing with terminal lung cancer. At that time Macmillan nurses were amazing and we couldn't have got through without them."
A strong pair of lungs will definitely be needed to ascent the infamous Alp D'Huez and Mr Phillip has been preparing by training over 100 miles a week in all kinds of weather, with typical weekend training rides exceeding 90 miles.
He is being supported by Harrogate's cycle specialists Boneshakers Bikes and their new Specialized Concept Store www.specializedconceptstore.co.uk , who are sponsoring Steve's efforts and fully preparing his bike to take on the steep gradients and the unforgiving hairpin bends of the Alps mountain stages.
Deirdre said: "Steve is a great friend and someone who I respect greatly - he's an inspiration in his industry and I wish him all the best in his adventure. He's passionate about achieving his goal so I know he'll do it"
Steve is the founder of Red fm, which specialises in providing coaching and training to women in business, to help them achieve their potential. See www.red-fm.co.uk for more info.
