STAFF at the Leeds office of Grant Thornton will be paying virtual visits to all corners of the globe this summer as they step into action with the launch of the firm's biggest health and well-being activity to date, the Global Corporate Challenge (GCC).

Three teams of seven are donning pedometers for 125 days and aim to take 10,000 steps each per day to help their team trot the virtual globe.

357 people forming 51 teams from almost all Grant Thornton offices in the UK are taking part in the Challenge, which is the world's largest corporate health and well-being initiative, combining exercise, fun and virtual interactive experiences.

During the challenge, each team will be recording the total number of steps taken each day and entering them into the GCC website which converts the steps into miles travelled across the globe. On reaching each destination the team will unlock a host of facts and figures about each region that they visit.

Janette Hulme at Grant Thornton in Leeds said: "This challenge marks the start of our ‘Well Being Summer' here in Leeds and the aim is to get people to exercise more and develop a healthy habit that they can continue long after they have finished this challenge. The event hopes to encourage our hard working, mainly office based people to get out and get active.

"There is a competitive edge to the challenge as teams can log onto the GCC website to track each others' progress across the globe. We are expecting some healthy competition between the teams and I'm sure this will help spur them on to reaching their daily targets!"

The challenge forms part of Grant Thornton's ongoing well being campaign which was launched last year with a Well Being Week. This was an action filled week of exercise classes, nutrition lessons and health advice for staff across all 30 Grant Thornton UK offices, helping to educate and raise awareness of key health issues for all employees.

"Grant Thornton takes its responsibilities towards its employees very seriously. It goes to the very heart of being a responsible employer and employer of choice. Happy and healthy staff lead to a more productive workplace," Janette Hulme concluded.
