GENEROUS business people and organisations in Leeds are helping to transform lives after launching The Leeds Community Foundation 100 Club.
The organisation aims to support the work of the Leeds Community Foundation - a charitable organisation committed to supporting transformational change in the city's most disadvantaged communities.
Leeds Community Foundation currently provides structure, support and guidance to thousands of community groups as well as acting as a conduit between a huge range of donors, grants and the Government.
The core costs of running the Foundation are £100,000 per year to run and The Leeds Community Foundation 100 Club is aiming to recruit 100 patrons who will each donate £1,000 per year to cover these costs.
So far 27 people and organisations have signed up to become patrons including Jonathan Morgan, Jan Fletcher, Richard Lewis, Richard Boothroyd, Tim Hodgson, Pete Yendall, Adam Beaumont, Land Securities and Paula Dillon.
The Leeds Community Foundation 100 Club is also keen to engage those whose success has taken them away from Leeds, and is delighted to announce that Nick Hodgson of the Kaiser Chiefs, now based in London, has recently signed up.
Sally-Anne Greenfield, chief executive of Leeds Community Foundation, said: “There is a huge gap in Leeds between those that benefit from local prosperity and social well-being and those that don't. We're currently working with all sorts of donors, charities and groups to try and close this gap, and since April 2009, the Foundation has been able to distribute more than £3.6m to 250 community groups in Leeds.”
“Although we receive some statutory funding, there is still a long way to go to ensure our core running costs are covered so we're extremely grateful to the founding members of The Leeds Community Foundation 100 Club and it's fantastic to see such commitment and support from key figures in the city.”
Jonathan Morgan, managing director of city living specialist Morgans and a member of Leeds Community Foundation's development committee, added: “As a successful Leeds based company, we're keen to see everyone in the city sharing in its prosperity. If we can help to take away the burden of The Foundation's day to day running costs, it means the organisation can remain focussed on making a difference in our disadvantaged communities.”
